As a homeowner, it’s important to be mindful of possible plumbing issues that may arise during the summer due to increased water usage, warmer temperatures, and summer visitors. Even though summer is a time for relaxation, it’s still crucial to stay alert in case a plumbing problem occurs. The last thing you want is a plumbing catastrophe to surface in the middle of your summer plans! So, join your Narrow Path Plumbing experts to learn about the most common problems and how to handle them.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON OUTDOOR SUMMER PLUMBING PROBLEMS?

1. OUTDOOR FAUCETS, SPRINKLERS, & WATER-HOSE PROBLEMS – First, it’s important to address any plumbing issues related to outdoor fixtures. Faucets, sprinklers, and water hoses can experience issues, especially if they are older components. On top of that, the combination of summer heat and high-water usage can lead to larger problems like burst pipes and flooding if smaller issues are left unresolved.

To avoid major plumbing disasters like this, it’s important to periodically inspect your hoses, sprinklers, fixtures, and faucets for any noticeable damage like cracks or leaks. If you discover any issues, it’s best to repair or replace the affected parts promptly. Ignoring minor problems can lead to more significant issues in the future, resulting in larger and more complex plumbing problems. Remember to seek the help of a licensed professional for larger problems.

2. SEWER LINE BACKUP PROBLEMS – Now, let’s talk about an important issue – sewage! During the summer, sewer lines often get clogged due to increased usage and various other reasons. This is a problematic situation to deal with. So, if you think your sewage line is having problems, look out for foul odors, gurgling sounds, clogged drains or toilets, and backups. If you notice any of these signs, please contact us. We will take care of all the necessary repairs to restore your system to its proper functioning.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON INDOOR SUMMER PLUMBING PROBLEMS?

1. LEAKY FAUCET PROBLEMS – Dealing with leaky faucets can be quite annoying. It’s common for a leaking faucet to go on longer than it should, but letting this happen not only results in the wastage of water and higher water bills but can also lead to bigger problems in the future. Therefore, it’s best to address the leaking faucet as soon as possible. Tightening the fixture or replacing the washer may resolve the issue; however, in some cases, new faucet fixtures may be required.

2. CLOGGED TOILET PROBLEMS – Older plumbing systems are more prone to clogging due to rusting, corrosion, and mineral buildup on drain lines caused by the temperature change and increased humidity during summer. While regular clogs should be handled accordingly with a plunger, a more complicated clog should be handled by a professional.

On top of that, during the summer, school-aged children are at home, and this can lead to increased water usage in the daytime. To prevent costly repairs that stem from a small issue that becomes larger, it is advised that you regularly inspect your toilets for cracks or leaks as a proactive measure.

3. LOW-WATER PRESSURE PROBLEMS – During this season, low water pressure is a common problem that can occur due to changes in regional water levels or mineral buildup in your pipes. So, if you’re experiencing this issue, it’s recommended to contact a professional plumber as soon as possible.

4. WATER HEATER PROBLEMS – Whether it’s summer or winter, hot water is crucial! In case the water temperature in your home is not heating up or is only staying lukewarm, the cause could be your water heater. High summer temperatures can overload and damage your water heater, resulting in cracks. Additionally, sediment accumulation may be the reason, and flushing your water heater could solve the issue. If you’re having any issues like this, don’t hesitate to call us.

5. WASHING MACHINE PROBLEMS – During summertime, remember to also inspect your washing machine regularly for potential problems such as clogged pipes or hoses, corrosion, and broken seals. It’s important to include this as part of your routine maintenance and to watch for any signs of leaks, corrosion, or damage.

7. DISHWASHER AND GARBAGE DISPOSAL PROBLEMS – During the summer season, when there are more opportunities for gatherings at home, it is important to remember to only dispose of foods that are safe for the drain in the garbage disposal. In the middle of hosting a cookout or party, it is understandable that we may feel rushed and tempted just to throw something down the kitchen sink, but it is best to be cautious. Dealing with a blocked garbage disposal and kitchen sink can be a hassle, so it’s best to avoid it altogether. Additionally, avoid overwhelming your dishwasher as it could lead to blockages caused by food and other particles. Practicing proper food disposal and avoiding dishwasher overload will help to ensure everything functions smoothly this summer.

Mike & Terry remodeled 2 of my bathrooms along with the drywall finisher and did a beautiful job. Had multiple leaky shut off valves replaced & a kitchen faucet replaced. Had lines run so I could move my laundry up out of my basement & poor Mike had to run wiring through my attic on a 90 degree day. I was so worried he would have a heat stroke but he never complained once. Also had a whole house filter replaced & a valve replaced on my hot water tank by another plumber whose name I can't remember but they all were polite and did professional work.
